Is this really 5 stars?

BFG liked it loads (there must have been semi-naked men in it) and another poster said he walked out!

For sheer enjoyment, execution, pace and all round innovativeness, Beowulf deserves five stars. That and the bit where he pops out of the serpent’s eyeball.

I liked it too, tho I saw the 3d version. Would give it 4/5. Good action scenes, naked angelina jolie...

I saw the film for a second time and took my girlfriend along. She spotted the flaws - Jolie was nippleless and strangely ‘smooth’. I suppose if the animators had gone into any more detail the film would have attracted a whole different audience; the type that has an awful lot of unnamed DVDs on their shelf.

Watching that actor say 'Oi slaggg arv come to kill your monsta!' is a step too far.

Beowulf is a classic of English literature from over a millenium ago, a story to touch the soul of children (it touched mine when I was a wee one) and Hollywood has crucified it.

It can't be long before Diana the movie comes out and then Diana II.

I shall reread this story methinks rather than watch this claptrap.

I really did think it was not a good night out.

The effects are interesting - but that's what they are - effects. The story was weak, even though it had the potential to deal with broader issues (father/son and Golden Bough-type dynamics as well as old Gods/Christianity).

Any why the gratuitous nudity from CGI? Beowulf fights stark naked for some reason, but they preserve his modesty by putting things in front of him - in the style of Benny Hill, for crying out loud.

And was Angelina Jolie in high heels - not that you spend too much time looking at her feet, I suppose.

And the violence - I found it slightly disturbing that we are invited to laugh at carnage - why does it then surprise us when there are real wartime atrocities.

Worst of all - the end where the monster's mother may be seen as a possible victor. I bet the original doesn't end on a cynical note - he's a hero, for God's sake!

I hope Enchanted isn't a dud that looks like it uses the technology but does have a script.
