At one point he suggests there are English managers who could do just as good a job.
Moron.
The man who is due to take charge has won league titles in two different countries with 4 different teams. He has won a European cup. He probably has domestic cups to his name too (I cant be bothered to research it, its not important).
Meanwhile, the three highest-regarded English candidates are...
Harry Redknapp - Winner of....Errrr......Oh yeah - he turned Portsmouth into a team that may qualify for the UEFA cup.
Alan Curbishley - He didn't get Charlton relegated, so is obviously an outstanding candidate.
Sam Allardyce - Again a winner of....nothing! He turned Bolton into an ugly-footballing bunch of thugs who scraped into an awful UEFA cup competition that has lost all credibility since the format change.
So yes Paul, you are right. The English guys are just as good.
I think the word 'footballing' in the title is redundant.
he's preaching to his audience. he knows what they want to hear. it would be lovely to have a homegrown manager ... how I wanted N. Ireland to flourish under Sammy McIlroy .... but it took Lawrie Sanchez (okay, he did have N.I. connections) to turn us around and for that we are eternally grateful.
there is only one suitable English candidate and he's retired.
Only in England though are we so blinded by this stupid national pride that we would seriously consider appointing a national manager who has won nothing.
"The longer it goes on that the top jobs go to foreign coaches, the more difficult it will become for English and British coaches to get the big jobs in the future," said Hughes.
Taylor - do I really need to explain this one?
Venables left his position after Euro 96
Hoddle was forced to resign
Keegan was not the right man
Macca just completely fucked up from day one
It is not only an issue of finding a manager, but one that wants the job. They did the whole British thing last team and ended up choosing the worst person for the job.
Leave it to Fabio, let us play boring football and he will do better then Sven. My only concern is that they may force him to stop playing boring football - he should tell them to fuck off and just do his job, like he did at Real Madrid.
How did Ron Greenwood ever get the England Managers job when Paisley and Cloughie were available???
Clough should have been given the job, while Bob did not want it - he had something better to do, be the greatest English manager and the greatest manager in Britain football of all time.
