I only recently disposed of a Hitachi colour set that I bought around 1980. I replaced it with another Hitachi, which I told the retailer I fully expect to last just as long!
My last CRT was a Hitachi, year long warranty & crapped out literally 2 weeks after it had run out.
I always had them down a decent make.
There's an Acoustic Solutions (who!?!) in Argos, in stock up the road, 26" LCD for £230 plus £55 for a 3 year warranty that I'm tempted by, but a lot of online reveiws are off putting
People might laugh at me, but I got a 32" plasma from Aldi. It's their own brand 'Tevion', but I've had it 2 years and it's been brilliant. It's HD too, and looks great with HD films or with xbox.
The last time they were selling them, they were £350. 3 year warranty. Bargain.
I never take extended warranty - I tell them that I expect it to last, and that I'll take it back under the Sales of Goods Act
I sat on the steps of 'Powerhouse' with a faulty fridge one Saturday after its warranty expired and they refused to fix it, telling the potential customers what crap they sold.

This is the sort of thing I've been reading up on this morning, you've done well there by the sound of it.
I've been looking up Vistron & Accoustic Solutions 26" LCD's on online forums & reading all sorts of nightmares. It's really put me in a pickle.

I got a new fridge !
Brilliant!!! I wish I had the balls to stuff like that. I ended up paying £300 for a TV that lasted a year, paid another £80 to get it fixed, for it to only last 6 more months

Argos are the worst - they try to convince you that after 28 days, they have to send it back to the manufacturer for repair.
No they don't - they have to replace it. It's called selling shoddy goods not fit for purpose. Just complain long and loud when the shop is busy !
