When I first started playing mens football aged 14 (11 years ago), most of the players were in their 20's and 30's.
At half time, we would go back into the changing rooms and most of them would be gasping for a fag. The never used to mind because they thought the exercise (1 game and 1 training session per week) was enough exercise for them to not be doing themselves too much damage.
Last week I heard one of them head a heart attack (he is 46 now), and I ocassionally see a few of the lads around and about. Most of them look terrible now, aged massively by their smoking.
I think we need a penalty system, to be enforced by someone close by. Maybe each time you smoke, your wife can make sure you pay £1 fine to charity or something?

Stop it before it makes a mess of you.
I am already a mess if you hadnt noticed!!
You are all dead right, I have no excuses. A group kicking hurts most! Thanks everyone.
I am not going to preach about giving up smoking - I have never been a smoker so have no clue about how difficult it is/isn't to give up.
Just try hard is all I will say, because it will do you the world of good.
Be prepared to feel worse before you get better though, I know that much. When the tar etc is cleared from the lungs it is supposed to be a horrible cough, and apparently bacteria can live in the tar causing colds etc.

I have been through it before on many occasions, I know what to expect. I have gone 2 months on a few occasions, just havent managed to nail it. This time though.
Are you using nicotine replacement or just going cold turkey?
I have patches and nicotine spray. Nicotine spray rocks when you get used to it, its like cs gas when you first start using it. Will get bollocked tonight from the smoking advisors. They do a carbon monozide test so they will know I have been smoking. I will cough up (so to speak anyway). Hope I get the cuter one to give me a kicking.
