Empire: "With In Bruges, the British gangster movie gets a Croydon facelift."

Have you seen it SB? I've only seen one film since Adam came along (Bourne Ultimatum) but think this is going to be my second.

I was disappointed - good basic plot, a handful of great performances (Fiennes lets the side down IMHO) but it doesn't quite make it. The pretentious crap is not pretentious enough to be funny and the film isn't quite brave enough to be heartless.
Some great moments though - but it is less than the sum of the parts.

Yeah Will, I just can't see how a film set in Bruges about two Irish criminals is a British Gangster movie. Empire letting themselves down there.

Aww. Poor Will! Just give him 20quid and send him off to the pub. I'm sure he could climb onto a stool and order now?

My understanding is In Bruges breaks down thus: primarily Irish cast (Gleeson and Farrell) and director (McDonagh - Irish parents), funded by a British company (Film4 Productions) and an American company (Focus Features). Really, I don’t know what that makes it. I’m veering towards Irish because that is where most of the creative input has come from, and because I feel like it.
