I just saw this today for free thanks to brother in law getting preview tickets. I didn't really know anything about this film until I saw it. Apparently it is based on an old cartoon? Follows the eponymous character Speed Racer as he grows up in the shadow of his older brother Rex, a professional car racer. When he grows up to be a racer as well, Speed must choose whether to follow his principles or sell out to big business.

I'm not sure how good this would be in an ordinary cinema, but in IMAX it was quite a good film. The races are spectacular futuristic events with the cars using james bond style gadgetry as weapons against each other and doing impossible stunts.

It is a bit shmaltzy with a stupid kid and his pet chimp sidekick, and family values vs the evil of big business, but quite enjoyable nonetheless - and I didn't feel restless even though it is 2hours long! Surprised to see Matthew Fox from Lost in it. But I genuinely enjoyed it and even laughed at the corny jokes and slapstick. Shame the villains are all played by British actors ....

Had John Goodman, Susan Sarandon and christina ricci - and emile hirsch
