Instead of trying to defend the guy in the picture why don't people ask why the riot police were called? It wasn't because the Rangers fans were behaving. As far as I'm concerned they have scum in their ranks. Listening to a Rangers fan on the radio today he said he couldn't understand why the fans had become violent. He was ashamed to have been in Manchester with them. As far as I'm concerned, anyone who defends these animals are scum too. That includes cowards who say that Glasgow isn't ashamed of them. Absolutely disgusting.
I cannot condone the actions of those morons who came into your drama night PP, nor do I condone the actions of those who were let's face it looking for a riot and I'm sorry if it sounded that way. I have heard personally from folk who were there that the police just jumped in and a good friend of mine was battered round the head by police for no apparent reason whilst being called a jock bastard, if you knew this guy, he wouldn't say boo to a goose.
I just think it is unfair that the vast majority of good rangers fans have been tarred with the same stick as the yobs, but again in perspective it was a small amount among what is thoguth to have now been around 200,000 people.
Today I heard some interviews with lock people caught up in the violence. There was a mother of a young family who had lost sight of two sons when they fled for refuge. She really feared for their lives. I understand that some innocent fans may have been caught up in the battle but just disagree with the thought that it's all the fault of the police. The riot police were called because the regular police were overwhelmed. Maybe they did go over the top but if you heard some other eye witnesses (genuinely innocent people just out for the atmosphere, including women and children) I'm sure you could understand the anger felt towards Rangers fans by the vast majority of Mancunians.
It was a wholly sad, sorry affair and a lot of innocent mancunians got caught up in the violence of a minority of Rangers fans as well as innocent Rangers fans also.
A lot of questions are and should be raised at both the police and with city chiefs on the whole organisational skills of what should have been and was a showpiece event being held in Manchester marred by ugly scenes.
The so-called fans who caused the problems were not representing the majority of Rangers fans when they carried out their rampage.
Also I've heard now that manchester council have possibly shelved plans for a party if man utd win the champions league!!! What has that got to do with man utd.? Thats a general question not just aimed at you pp. :)
I'll be glad if they shelve the plans! I can't stand Man U!
Seriously though, I have no idea. Actually, this is the first I've heard of it. It does seem daft to me too though. Maybe it's just overkill against football supporters.
I realise it was only a minority of Rangers fans and my comments were made in anger. I should really have been a little more objective in my criticisms of Rangers fans.
well it's understandable if some morons come into a charity event and shout and scream about showing the football that you would be angry with them, I'd be too and what they said was deplorable and inexcuseable.
My mate told me last night he was in picaddily square and the screen broke down and that he was asking a cop where the velodrome was when he was clocked by one of the cops colleagues. Perhaps it was the language barrier, I explained as he has a broad glaswegian accent but he reckons the first cop was actually alright and giving him directions when the other one started swinging at him and unfortunately made contact, a lot of folk saw this and came rushing over which in turn made the police force move in as well. Lol. I was telling him it was his fault the whole thing started but it had already kicked off elsewhere and he felt the cops were anxious and nervy.
Ps I cant stand manchester united or chelsea either so don't give a toss who wins. I know they were planning a parade if Rangers won or lost here in glasgow but I think they have been shelved also what with Tommy Burns' death.
