nah, I believe there is some merit in muscle memory. You rip your muscles up, they get bigger, you stop training they shrink a bit, but the underlying connections are there, you just need to give them a reason to get back where they were.
Some people get good training advice from the start, they can do the same thing next time but still get there faster than last time thanks to muscle memory

I remain to be convinced that it is anything more than the trainee knowing what works and what doesn't work second time around.

Another good argument... but in the end f*ck it, I get big because my muscles remember that I train hard and think they may as well get big soon as it'll be easier to lift the weights =)

I see what you mean, interesting then, as it would seem that I should be able to get bigger quicker than my training partners as my muscles have been there before...

Possibly, the point is that the muscle will grow quicker the 2nd time round, your brain will know just as much in both cases because muscle grew both times

So I spend six months trying to grow muscles.
I use weights that are too light, do too much cardio and eat the wrong stuff.
Then I get good advice on how to do it properly, follow it and get big muscles.
Five years later, I am back to square one because I stopped training.
But now, I know what to do, I know the imprtance of good form, and I know how to train to failure and eat properly.
My muscles get bigger, faster than first time

I see what you mean, but muscle memory doesn't work like that, that's just not training properly in the first place.
Say you weight train properly with good rest & nutrion for 6 months, start off at 180lbs & finish up at 220lbs.
Then you don't train for a year.
Your body weight is back down to 180lbs, but then train in the same fashion as before & get back upto 220lbs in 4 months. That's muscle memory :)

Colorado Experiment
Casey Viator, 63lbs of muscle, 28 days.
I doubt he achieved that gain solely from his brain memory knowing how to train. He had been in an accident and off training for a while, so this to me is muscle memory at work.
