My mate is currently 'living' off protein shakes. He says he is going to consume nothing but these for 2 weeks!

Surely this cannot be healthy? He is convinces that they are still food and he has done it in the past and lost lots of weight.

Help me help this dude. I told him to stop messing around and eat properly but I don't actually know what would happen if you ate nothing but protein shakes for 2weeks! I just assume it's bad for you because

a) Why the hell would you not wanna eat food!

b) You need solid foods surely?

Is he gonna die? If so I will tell him to leave me his Nintendo Wii in his will!

He's only a young lad and it's a shame to see him going down this route. He has also taken 'other' things in that past to encourage muscle growth!

Not knowing an awful lot, hence the post asking about the differences, I would suggest that he will end up not receiving a full and balanced range of nutrients, so risk malnutrition.

Also a lack of solids, will be no good for his digestive system.

Not a great plan, me thinks!

Me neither, although I generally do not know the dangers of this. It just seems insane.

Fooker has decent guns as well and he's only 19.

He may give up the idea after 3 days of chronic flatulence and ring stingers. Probably cost him a bit as well.

I told him that and that he will probably suffer stomach cramps!

You sure it is only protein shakes and not shakes and food supplements?

For example, some people prefer to Cyclone as a protein shake, when it is not a protein shake?

Why for two weeks, what benefit will he get from those two weeks?

Although, I do think he will be consuming food but means he will be consuming a lot of protein shakes. If so, he needs a toilet just for himself for those two weeks and lots of toilet roll. Maybe you should purchase an air freshener, a large pack of toilet rolls and lynx for him.

His metabolism will grind to a halt, he'll have no energy whatsoever, he'll most likely get ill through lack of nutrients and vitamins, his workouts will be piss poor, and the vast majority of 'weight' he loses will be water and glycogen + he'll lose some muscle too!

Muppet!

That's exactly what I told him! But he seems dead set on the idea.

I will keep trying to get through to him although I only see him fri afternoons at the gym. Maybe like JT says he is still eating foods but I didn't get that impression talking to him on sat.

He will get more nutrients than will a lot of people in this world - at least he has a choice.

Let him get on with it, and suffer the consequences
