Just read this article on MSN and found it quite interesting and I was wondering to what extent MSers agree with it:

Interesting article, I was reading something similar yesterday but it was basically saying that the "man" is returning and that it's the decline of the "metrosexual" that's bringing it on...

I could not tell you where the missus keeps the iron nor do I care. I don't use it and I would have to consider it greatly to work the thing if I had to. My missus does thw women's work and I do the man's work. She likes being with a real man and I like being with a real woman. Job done.

What interested me about the article was that when reading it I realised my OH was definitely "old style" bloke who doesn't know how to work a washing machine would never ever dream of crying in front of anyone even his closest family etc. In fact one of his pet hates is blokes on reality TV who blub. Having said that though he is much better at ironing than I am :o/

You read that in a text book or something?

In response though, I do what I have to do and to be honest whether its a manly task like changing a tyre or a "womanly" job like ironing my own shirt for the office I'll do it... real men don't have to consider if it's manly or not... they just get the fucking job done and move to the next task... ;-)

I neither read it in a book nor consider what tasks are manly or not. I do the washing up, I cook, I clean about the place if needed. i do not iron nor do I wash the clothes. That is just how it is and I certainly don't way up whether it is a manly or unmanly balance.

Yet you say you do the man work...??

And why would have to "consider it greatly" if you were to use an iron... (cue a convoluted response on ironing)...

Manly man?

I shave, use moisturiser and deoderant. I do these things because without them I would look like a bag of shit and smell.

Nothing to do with being metrosexual.

I can cook, clean, wash clothes and iron (although the latter not very well). Is it about being femenine? No, it is so I can be independent. I dont NEED a woman to feed me or make sure I don't look like a scruff.

Again, this is not becasue I am metrosexual, I just think needing a woman to make sure you eat is something every man should grow out of. You are no longer a baby, sort it out.

I can change a tyre, rewire a plug, put up shelves and lift heavy things. Is it being manly? No, it's just so I dont end up stranded in the middle of nowhere if I get a puncture or unable to read if the plug goes in my lamp.

Surely the division of jobs into male/female is about 30 years out of date?!

Stupid article. If I find the writer and beat the piss out of him, would that be manly?

If I join in will that turn me into a bloke? Or just make me feel better about this bunch of arse? :-)

Sadly the person who wrote this 'article' wasn't someone from MSN, so we can't beat them for that. All MSN have done is regurgitate the press release from Frank PR who've been busy trying to persuade the media to discuss this latest crisis in masculinity - this time as a means to get you to buy a hair styling product.

We're forever hearing that masculinity is in decline, or there are new men, metrosexuals, ladettes and all the rest of it. Most of which are things invented by the media. The reality is much more mundane, men's lives and roles are changing. They're not the same as they were fifty or a hundred years ago. Some aspects of men's lives are much better than that experienced by their forefathers, some aspects may seem worse.

But this doesn't fit a 'men are in decline' story headline - and it doesn't sell haircare products either. Nor does it help lazy journalists who no longer care about useful social research, but just want something that's a bit of a 'talking point' no matter how crap it is.

I want to be a journo.

It is perhaps the only job where you can recycle other people's work and get paid pretty well for your troubles.
