We already have basic Sky satellite tv , and get the lowest level of Sky broadband free! I think it's 2mb, but when we were paying for 8mb, I did one of those internet speed test things and it claimed we were only getting 2mb anyway.
If Sky TV still give you a Netgear DG834 router then bite their hand off, it's a good model and can be used elsewhere if they allow you to keep it post-contract.
I was with NTL/Virgin for 6 years, now they've gone downhill, switched to Plusnet, 15 quid per month for 8Megs (tenner less than Virgin's Large BB), no surcharge for not paying direct debit, 15Gig daytime allowance but properly unlimited downloads from midnight to 8am suiting my night-owl hours, sadly it's pot luck regarding the router and I only ended up with a single-port model, even if it does have an on-off switch for saving power.
On the unlimited period I get 7.6 out of 8Megs on a BT Line that had to be re-laid to the telegraph pole, over the 4-5 years before that I had nothing but hassle with my phone line which stopped me going ADSL before now.
