It's difficult to say without knowing the real specifics. I guess it depends on what sort of person you are sb. I mean, all companies are evil to varying degrees. Clothing companies make money by exploiting factory workers and paying them a pittance for isntance.

Be honest and don't delude yourself that you are going to transform the company from within unless you are getting a v high ranking job that can really make an impact on policy.

This above all else - to thy own self be true.

Definately erring on the PGE and Claudio side of the fence at the moment.

@PGE current employer is different industry and know I am moving. Its all part of my 'plan',

I have to admit there is a litte Dan M sitting on my left shoulder with a pitchfork and waving dollars at me...

I'll make up my mind tomorrow after a good night sleep :-)

Why is making a decision that good be good for your career, and you family and your future 'bad'?

I just give my view on it, but as a 12 year old, idiotic troll, you don't have to take any notice.

Oh, and also: Greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right. Greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all of its forms, greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind.

Claudio and Pegs have both given some good advice about how you'd feel.

I guess the question is would it offer you interest, long term job satisfaction and the opportunity to develop career wise? Presumably not everyone will hate the company so it may offer you other career opportunities if you decide to leave?

My only concern would be if it stuffs your chances of going somewhere else afterwards, and if it makes you miserable (even if it makes you rich).

Mind you, I'm the last person you should listen to since having far too many principles means I'm constantly turning things down and missing out on having lots of treats :-(

Yes - "I took this job because all I cared about was the money and |I didn't care about what the organisation did." Spin that one if you can.

To be honest, the bigger danger may be that you will become a clone of the organisation - and then start to justify what they do. On a more mundane level, I've had people in interviews being open about how unethical they were ("ends justify the means" etc) and it won't always do them any good.

I know. That is a fear. Go in with good intentions and then fall to the dark side.

Claudio, as a person who has interviewed, would you take in to account the the job a person did previously or the comapny they worked for or both?

My job is removed 'enough' from the core of the sales process (which is the main issue people have with them) that I would hope a future employer would only rate me on my job performance rather than my employer.

When applying or company xxx, I had heard stories of how they stole candy from children, however I believed that what the company needed was a person like me who could perhaps change things, or at least play some small part in improving consumer satisfaction. I beleive in giving all things a fair and equal chance, and as the job itself seemed interesting I applyed and was quickly accepted. Once inside I soon discovered how rigid they were, and that santa claus was a myth.... etc etc

tbh i doubt people will give you the 3rd degree over it

The truth is I would get job satisfaction and oppurtunity to develop career wise.
I see it a stepping stone that would put me into far higher position elsewhere where I could be the policy maker and bring my own principles to the table.

I just need to know if future employers evaluate you on your previous work or whether they evaluate the company you worked for.

I would like to think that it is on the work that you did.

SB, I think you have already made the decision really, everyone has a 'gut' feeling and I thnk you will have yours. As for whether other companies you go for interviews with in the future looking at your CV, judging you, etc, no-one on here can answer that, not even the people who have considerable experience in those matters because, unless they are the ones who are actually going to interview you, then it is just their opinion, and the person/people/company that does actually interview you may have a different opinion, or it may have the same opinion. Who knows?

As for all the comments about 'sleeping at night', 'looking at yourself in the mirror', etc, it's not as if the company he is going to work for is some kind of neo-nazi orginasation. It's also not as if SB will be snapping puppies necks or robbing war heroes of their medals.

That's my view anyway, and if people want to call that immoral, or bad, then fair enough, but in the end, you have to look after your self, and just because some parts of the company are a bit underhand, doesn't mean that you will be 'bad' for bettering yourself.
