During the next few months I'm going to give squatting another bash, I'll stick with the Leg Press until I've got form 100%
The machines at my gym are mainly free, one or two are often occupied but I can get on them no probs. The benching & squatting racks are often busy so I just stick to the machines. I'm happy with my form & can put the effort into them.
The staff at my gym wouldn't have a clue on how to squat properly, you're lucky Jimmie to have competent staff at yours. There's one lad at my gym who knows his stuff, he'd be the only gym I'd ask for form advice but he's often busy
I'll get there, one of my targets is to bench press, squat & dip with perfect form, so I'm going to whip out my McRobert form book & it give it some study over the coming months :)

I certainly wouldn't try squatting without advice, and the big ones without a spotter. Check out their qualifications if they are displayed, and look for one who is trained specifically for weight training. I wouldn't ask for advice on squats if all they have is a 'swiss ball' course !

don't let availability put you off. just stand inline and wait your turn, or ask if you can do a set while they rest.... i've never had anyone refuse a polite request to share equipment.

That's because you work out in your cellar, and you only have yourself to fight with !

or alternatively find a PT elsewhere that can teach youto squat. I went to a PT that had is own gym and he taught me to squat and deadlift.

It's a small time gym, I think they only have 4 members of staff & only have one on at a time. As far as I know none of them have any weight training qualifications. One thing is, they do have an awsome squatting rack
Do as much as you are completely comfortable with.
I totally agree with not doing squats and deadlifts without having someone to show you how. I was making a good few errors in the past which probably didnt help my back troubles. So happy when I found a physio willing to show me how and watch my form in the gym.
try and get in touch with someone with decent qualifications as it would be well woprth a session or two to learn the correct form. Rather than continuing to be unsure and avoiding great exercises.
But with things like chinups and dips theres not as much too them formwise and a few tips off here and internet vids should see you pretty much sorted with them.
