All my years of driving i have nearly had an accident,or dealt with insurance company, but few months back some idiot reversed right into the front of my car.

Anyway his insurance company is offering what they call market value for the car. i pay more in car insurance that what they are offereing. Its not even a a third of the price of the parts.

He said Its either that or they said they will just right the car off.

any point in even asking for more or at least cover my excess i had to pay on a hire car?

No harm in asking !

They should certainly cover your uninsured losses (excess), so ask away.

Incidently, I recently saved around £400 by shopping around for car and house insurance. Don't assume that your existing company offers the best deal. That's what they hope you'll assume.

I've asked they just said the same thing, take the offer for the parts and labour that they say the car needs or they right the car off and just give me market value, which is £50 less than what there offering.

Are you in RAC or AA or similar ?

Your membership also includes free legal advice in relation to motoring.

You are doing this through your own insurers, aren't you, and not dealing direct with his ?

Alternatively, accept the offer but tell them that you will be suing their client for all other uninsured losses .

Or perhaps you were paying over the odds! If i save 400 on my insurance I would be near getting it for free!

Not a member of RAC or the AA. thats what families are for lol

Well pissed off with my insurance company, they first of all tell me the car is not road worthy over the phone, they had not been out to see it. so need a hire car.

weeks later chasing them up about whats happening, then they end up just telling his insurance comapny to deal with it, so i've been speaking to them.

their guy as been out and looked at the damage.

Why bother asking you the value of the car when applying, if when they just say sorry but the market value for that car is £xxx.

Still a very big saving! Just makes me wonder if you were perhaps paying over the odds in the first place.
