I'm now dashing through The Road - I can't say I'm 'enjoying' it, but it is an interesting piece. It feels very 1970s/80s when there were lots of apocalyptic novels/films etc. It feels potentially depressing so far!

In yesterday's Guardian Review, it said that The Road might be made into a film. Not one I'll be queueing up to see, I must say.

Finally got this from library, need to read it quickly as someone else has requested it too. I'm not sure I should have started this! It's so endlessly grim! Still, I have managed to get through a lot of it already. Hopefully I won't off myself before I finish.

Somehow I have already finished this! I must admit I did resort to skim reading at points. Oh dear god, what a miserable book! It was heart wrenching at times, the poor dad doing his best to protect his little boy as they travel through some sort of post apocalyptic American landscape in search of somewhere safe.

The marauding gangs were disturbing, but they could have been fleshed out a little bit more, we only caught mere glimpses of them. Each time the dad and kid found some food, I was so happy for them! I managed to care what happened to them very quickly.

The lack of chapters to divide the book did make it seem as if the book would never end, but I suppose that's what the journey of the characters was like too, with the father trying to help the kid believe they are htey good guys, even though they resort to more pragmatic decisions to stay alive in the barren hostile world.

I don't know if i can say I enjoyed it, but it was a v good book, 8/10.
