Twin Towers... I'd been asleep in the daytime and my friend brought Winnie home from school and told me on the doorstep.
Diana.... I ha to get out of bed at the crack of dawn to drive my parents to the bus station for their holiday in Scotland. It was just as the news was breaking I think.. all still very fresh.
Bradford Stadium Fire..... on my paeds placement and on shift
Diana - got up before the folks and saw headlines on the paper; remember shouting up that Dodi was dead, and then switching on the TV to get blanket coverage, and then the radio to all normal transmission being cancelled.
9/11 - was either watching, or trying to watch Neighbours, and seeing the first plane hit in total disbelief, and then being gripped by what was happening, but not really understanding the significance. Texted Dad to ask if he had heard about what was going on, and then went to see my friend. It was a boiling hot day and we didn't really do much as her Mum and neighbour were both gripped to the TV watching the news unfold.
Both events were also before we had any of the rolling news channels like BBC News 24 either....so it was all on normal BBC rescheduled service
Elvis - was aground on a yacht on Loch Fyne, Scotland.
Diana - was heading up to Birmingham to collect my kids who had been to Florida. They heard on the plane on the way across.
9:11 - I was in a secure mental institution and out of contact, so I missed it all until I got into the car at the end of the day. I just sat in the car for ages and listened to the radio. (BTW, I was working there, not an inmate!)
Di - Got woken up early by my mother when on a camping trip.
9/11 - Skived off work to see my (then) girlfriend and hopefully get my leg over. Walked in and she had the news on. Thanks to Bin laden I didn't get my end away =(
Crikey, how could I foget about the 7/7 bombings. I was in the tube travelling between Kings X and L'pool street the two days before on those trains. I felt absolutely sick when I heard.
Likewise the Potters Bar train crash - I was in a place 50metres along the road the two days before.
Live every day as if it's your last - one day, you'll be right!
Diana death - I remember I was sleeping on s a sunday morning and could vaguely hear my parents watching the news downstairs, and thought it was part of my dream. Came downstairs to find out it was true! Was a shock, but strangely we did not burst into tears or wail or gnash our teeth.
11/9/01 - Was at home, mum called me into her room where she was watching tv, I thought she was watching a film until I realised it was the news.
7/7 - Was at work, they used the seminar room to project BBC News onto the large screen. Cue a few phonecalls to make sure people I knew who worked in the area were ok.

I'd forgotten that one..... I'm ashamed to say I was in a the Channel 4 Chatroom nattering away. I remember them saying that it was a 'power surge'.
