Old news - the Telegraph reported on this increase over a month ago.

Was in Gieves and Hawkes on Friday - they have seen an increase in total tie sales, but the ties have been on sales. Other places have been doing the same, the likes of TM Lewin had had big discounts on their suits, shirts and ties for a while now.

So how many ties have you purchased recently? ;-)

ps: you love the Telegraph
pps: someone at Gieves tried to sell me a pink shirt, the manager everyone at G&H never to sell me anything pink

I walked around London during the week recently around liverpool st and london wall and can certainly say that all of the men in suits were not wearing ties. I can safely say that a tie will not save you from being made redundant from work.

Most do not; however, if they have a meeting, they will do.

I only wear a tie if I am meeting a client or at the previous company, when we had meetings.

Agree, I only wear a tie if in meeting with clients or directors.

Everyone on floor wears a tie (well the males do).

Other floors seem to be more decadent and have dispensed with the need to wear a tie.

And we all work for the same organisation.

Must you be so insufferably pompous? I hadn't seen it before now and thought it was interesting, all right?

Try it, ffs! You never know, you might actually like it. Now go and iron your blazers or something.

I'm sure he has staff to do his ironing. ;-p

He has to ask the manager to tell the staff not to sell him anything pink - he obviously doesn't trust himself!

I always wear a tie at work, and a suit and it is only a small company. I try to be honest with myself:
1. I'm not sure if I wear it because I think I'm important and I associate people wearing a suit and tie as important
2. I try and think of it as my work "unifrom" so whe I get home I change in to jeans and feel not at work
3. My mum always taught me that wearing a suit and tie was smart

My mate at work used to say it was the symbol of a corporate noose, showing that you are a slave to your company....I like that analogy but I still wear my suit and tie.

I hope I never work somewhere where I have to wear suit and tie!
