There was an article in The Observer today about favouritism.. that a great number of mothers, especially, preferred one child over the others and yet felt it a as a huge taboo, couldn't admit to it etc.......
I wonder whether anyone had experienced this either as an offspring.. or as a parent.

Nope, my parents hated us all equally. There may have been some bias for me as the son cf to my sisters. I didn't get any special treatment for being youngest though.

They were speaking about this on the Wright Stuff this morning. Many people were saying they loved all their children equally but differently. I suppose it is a strange one and hard to admit to having a favourite child. They also said that the favourite is very rarely the first as it all new. I have two children myself a girl and a boy. I do love them both equally. My son though was admitted to hospital nearly 2 years ago now with Kawasaki disease and he was really poorly. I do admit after this he did get more attention from me and probably still does now. Does this make me a bad parent ?

I think (hope) that my parents love me and my sister equally! I do think they relate to both of us in different ways, but that's just because we are totally different personalities. I've never felt they picked favourites, even though she wasn't as naughty at school/got better grades.
Grandparents on the other hand....mine totally favour my sister! I think its because she was the first.

In terms of my sons, without a shadow of a doubt, I love them both equally. They have different qualities, and I respond to their individual characters in different ways, naturally.
Contrary to what PGE posted, I think my Grandparents favoured me slightly, as I was the youngest, but I know that my parents treated my sister and I equally - might not have realised it at the time though!
