Sure looks like a good kick Andy. I reckon there must be some kicking energy back in those old legs !!!!

There was a little bit, paying for it today though - see my update after my first night's training

I assume you do partner work in Tae? How did that go?

How many years has it been since you went last Andy?

(The normal abbreviation is TKD :-) )

Yes, we do partner work, however last night I practiced poomsae (kata in Karate, sets? in Kung Fu) during the sparring portion of the session.

I joined back in with a partner for the self-defence part of the lession (getting out of hold and practicing locks) and it was fine. But that part of it is always about technique rather than fitness.

I'd imagine next time will probably be more of the same, poomsae instead of sparring, but maybe the time after that I'll get to get kicked about!

It's been 6 years since I trained at the club. I carried on sparring with a partner on a weekend for a couple of years after I last trained with the club, so it's been about 4 years since I last did any TKD.

Did you have trouble remembering the poomsae's then? I know I would after so long!

How people was there that you knew? I bet most were all new faces!!

I only did the first 3. Generally they went fine, there were a few points where I had to look at the instructor as if to say "is this right?", but I didn't need correcting once. He said the only times I needed to look up where when I paused too long to think about it, when I went through it at a normal pace my remembered reflex just kinda carried me through it with the right moves.

I've got a lot more to go through, but if I can add a couple back in each session, I'll be back up to remembering the lot before you know it...

Most were new faces unfortunately. When I visited on Tuesday there was a first dan there that I knew as a green belt (about 4 grades up from beginner, 6 away from black belt). There are also quite a few of the old guys still training there, but it's peak holiday season so numbers are way down for a couple of more weeks.

To be honest though, that makes it a bit easier, if it was the old crowd I'd feel more pressure to have to do it like I used to.

Yeah, the lucky thing is I'm still the most senior grade (aside from the instructor). Fortunately, my instructor has never pushed people into sitting dan gradings past 1st dan, it's up to people to get motivated for it and express an interest.

I'm dying to get my 4th Dan......:-)

I passed my 2nd dan about 12 or 13 years ago now, I was offered my 3rd dan when these lads was taking theirs, but I refused.

I will pass my 3rd dan on my own time and terms, and I will pass it with hard work and sweat just like the others!!!
