The best was a ride called X at Magic Mountain in California. Can't find a video but it was a looping and twisitng roller coaster, all while the actual seat spun and flipped too.
Though for actual fear, have to agree with the Big One at Blackpool Beach. It's so old and dodgy that you think you might actually die. At least at Alton Towers and the like you don't think you actually have a chance of being killed.

oblivion still scares me, nemesis is the best ever for me, though the log flume/roller coaster at seaworld florida was aamazing and the twighlight tower of terror was awesome
