Do you think the idea of "cooking pyramids" which are mentioned in the article work - where one person learns to cook a dish and then teaches two others?
Make bad foods expensive, and a luxuary item. Cheap fruit and veg. Didn't people eat a lot better in the war time when we had all the government propaganda on eating?
TBH, look at all the cooking programs we have, the plain and simple fact is that many people are retarded and don't want to learn.
As far as I'm concerned, laziness is the biggest problem with people in general. Either too tired to cook, don't have the time or can't be bothered - so people go for convenience.
I agree with you Greg, you can give people reams of nutritional advice and cookery programmes, but if they do not want to change their habits you cannot force them to do so - it is going to cost the NHS a fortune in the long term treating diet related health issues.
When food choices/availability as restricted in wartime or before the vast range of fast foods were available families had to cook more but even in the 70s before ready meals and 12 takeaways on every high street there were plenty of kids raised on fish fingers, chips and beans with a packet of biscuits for snacks
STE I understand your point about people being short on time, but the cost of food preventing them from eating healthily????
The family mentioned in the article were spending £80 on takeaways I think and the Mum still had money for ciggies.
I buy local fruit and veg I got a cabbage for 50p this morning and 5kg of onions for £2.50 plus I saw Tesco had 3 chickens for £10 offer.
Bung in a bag of spuds, milk, and a loaf plus some extra fruit and you have enough food to keep a family going for lunch and dinner for several days for well under £20.

I suppose, but for example. If I want to make a Sunday Roast and buy all the stuff I need, it's gonna cost me well over a fiver. I also have to go to the supermarket to get said items. I can't be arsed. (I'm talking about a healthy sunday roast, steamed veggies, grilled chicken etc..).
So I will go to my local, get a massive dinner for about £4 and end up having a few pints.
Plus, healthy food goes out of date really quickly!
