A couple of clips for you today. The first, Bill Clinton on the Daily Show. Whatever you think about the man or his politics, this is worth watching...
That's a bit scary! I remember years ago a US Senator doing the same thing with several speeches that Neil Kinnock made. Ripped him off word for word- just edited the order.
You just want to shake Cameron and tell him to get a spine.
Interesting enough...the talking with your thumbs resting on your palms at mid-chest is a queue that we also use in NLP. It means, "I'm emphatic but not threatening" for the most part. Also there were several good examples of Hypnotic Language in there as well.

You want to do it to both him and Blair. But they're both following the money...

That's interesting. Can you read anything else into their hand gestures?

Such as? I'm going to watch it back. Cheers Carter!

Not in this particular clip- as that is all we tend to see- but that particularl momement is a favourite of politicians world wide. Watch Kofi Anan and Sen. Bob Dole- and even John McCain. They all use it. Dole exagerates his to make up for the fact he can't use his right hand- so he brings his even higher into the camera frame.

The one that struck me immediately was: "Values dont change; but times do". Its a small snippit, but conveys a large metamessage "I share your values- and the we live in new times. I will guard your values in this new world you dont know." Designed to make us feel that he is a leader.
Then, even though the video creates a mirror- they both set about emphasising change. So, they put out the first metamessage: "I'll lead you" and then drive it home by talking about more and more change. It creates what is called a floating opposite. "Follow Me" and then follow that up with news about changes. Lots of changes. The natural impulse for most people would be to dislike change- and to be led.
I'm not surprise at all- though- Allistair Campbell is a demi-god in NLP circles. The man is good at what he does.
