My wife and I tried a new wine this past week that both felt was one of the best in terms of taste and value that we had found in a while.
It's called Castillo de Anna Gran Reserva, and the particular bottle(s) that we enjoyed were from 2000. It ran just under £8.00, which we thought was a great value for this fun little bottle of Iberian heaven!
It’s a soft Spanish wine, which I guess I am trying to say is that for me the flavour was really not full on- but kinda of creeped up on you after you swallowed. I thought that it had a touch of the plums with a sweet caramel flavour, but my wife thought it was more like a plums with pleasant oak. Either way we both agreed that it was a great, juicy, wine- and have layed in more.
We did not know it at the time but the wine is actually a blend of both Tempranillo & Rioja blended together. So, if you like those styles- then this would be a safe bet
We don’t know much about the vineyard it comes from- but we would heartily recommend it as either a stand alone wine- or we have used it as a compliment to spicy Cuban Stew and to other spicy dishes.
I hope that you have an opportunity to try this wine out!
I would love to hear about what you guys are enjoying drinking at the moment- and what your all time favourites are. I am not at all a wine snob- and enjoy wine for its own sake. So don’t be shy- is it a Cabernet from Sainsbury’s or something from Odd Bins?…Share the wealth!
That's a great idea for a thread - if I find a good wine, I can rarely remember its name for the next time (no that's not because I get pissed on it, but then again.......).
My wife has developed an allergy to alcohol, which means that I have to drink it all myself !
That reminds me, I have a couple of bottles of Hungarian red under the stairs.

Slainte !
Slainte, Jimmie!
Sorry that you cannot share the wine with your wife.
I dont know a thing about Hungarian wines- and would love to hear about them when you open them.
You also gave me a good idea, with your pic. I often go off searching for a wine that a friend recommended- and never know what the bottle looks like. So I thought I would post a quick pic of the Castillo to help people find it better.

We visited the bottling plant for the winery when I was in Budapest, and had an opportunity to try about 10 samples. Four white, four red and two sherries. The heaviest of the reds is 'Bulls Blood', which some may have heard of.
I'll dig it out and post a pic later.
Great idea of posting a picture of the wine on the site... although some people claim that peeling labels from bottles is an idication of frustration... :o)
I am off to Valencia at the end of the month for a project and will look out this wine when I am there. I can also update on any others I stumble accross, as I am keen on my Tapas and Vino tinto.
