An early review of the Soapbox beta by website Cnet said it was "disappointing".
-what's the point though, there's youtube with a clear lead and microsoft isn't exactly a name people love, so I don't see it doing very well.

Nope, ICQ from Miriablis (spelling?) was launched in 1996, MSN Messenger was launched in 1999.
