What with all the new dads on the board and the new Deck The Halls film about dads warring about who can give their ankle biters the best Christmas, I thought it was time to ask... are you a competitive dad?
Do you pull out all the stops for your kids and hang everything else?
Do you pull out all the stops for your kids and hang everything else?
No I'm not, I wouldn't see the point in having more lights than a neightbour or anything else like that.
Plus, we all know it's nothing to do with being a dad, that's all about you you and erm... you!
I don't like it if another child in my daughters group is on a higher book or something like that, but I don't push my daughter to catch up or even beat. I just keep it to myself and tell her she's doing well(which she is, being in the top group of the whole year), I don't believe in giving a child of 7 stress like that!
I wouldn't usually consider myself a competitive Dad, but as with this weekend as an example, I wanted to have the best xmas decorations on our street. So I went down to B&Qs to get a few bits and pieces, but after coming back and seeing the neighbours accomplishments I made several trips down there in order to stand out more!
I think it was more that as I have a good relationship with the neighbours it's like a friendly competition. Maybe subconsciously it's me trying to show my kids what Dad can achieve, i'm not sure really....
If I said No, the cubs would just explode with laughter.......so YES!
But then, my kids are best!
I try to be good though...well, a bit......
...and, by the way, my eldest boy's band has just been in NME in the "unsigned bands to watch" section and my other son's doing really well in the theatre business!
i think wolfgang's done a good job of raising his kids.
however
i do remember moving into a new home that needed loads of work doing to it and wolfgang buggering off the america for 7 weeks, staying in a 5 star hotel, leaving the hard work of sanding floorboards etc. etc. for his young family.
