The taxes in the UK are almost crippling. Working for government as well, I don't think the money is spent all that wisely. I'd personally prefer to see a lot more privatisation than the current situation... The government here is massive and unweildy and not particular proficient at a lot of things that could be done better in a competitive environment.

Taxes are a pain, necessary but i do think we pay too much for very little effective use. He jsut throws cash at the NHS and it doesn't help.
Here's an example of how taxes affect me: i have to drive for my job but can claim back mileage. now in order to drive to see patients and carry instruments i MUST HAVE business insureance, which costs extra; however i am told the rate of mileage i get should cover that. seeing patients at home often involves smaller journeys, not as fuel efficient. and the mileage i get in return is also taxable... so i have paid fuel tax claimed for the mileage back and then get taxed again?! bastard.
