He will not target non-prostitutes because he is not comfortable with them.

- which is it, what the police said, and what the profiler says contradict, which can't be good. I really do hope that the profiler is right and with less prostitutes on the streets he just sits at home for a bit, giving the police time to get the forensic testing done and hopefully catch this person before any more deaths occur.

Needs to be caught sharpish

Preferably before any more deaths happen and midnight 24th December, if thats asking too much from the Police.

The idea that Ipswich have to deal with Christmas and end of year round-ups with this - is terrible

I hated the way all the news reports kept referring to " dead prostitutes" as though they were diposable items like Kleenex or Durex.

OK so the vice workers needed to be warned that a killer was targetting them BUT the dead are people - women, daughters, sisters, friends, maybe mothers too,not "just" prostitutes.

They were loved enough that they were reported missing before their bodies were found.

Yes I agree with you.

Their gender is the important factor... using their way of earning as a label just allows other women to distance themselves from the problem..... which could be dangerous.

Agree with both PJ and Beads.

Sadly sex workers are killed and injured on a depressingly regular basis. We focus on the very violent crimes because they hit the headlines, but often people aren't aware of the daily harassment and abuse street prostitutes recieve from neighbours, passers by and those out on the town who see them as an easy target. Name calling, being spat on and threatened can be a regular part of a street prostitute's life.

We're hearing more of this case because of the number of people being killed. As already mentioned all too often in the media (and public opinion) there's the view that sex workers aren't the same as other women, and it's not acknolwedged they have a life outside sex work. Fortunately in this case there has been some opportunity for the families of those murdered to describe their loved ones and talk about them as more than just dead sex workers.

Currently we're hearing a lot about what the media, police, psychological profilers and the public think about sex workers. I thought you might like to hear from a sex workers I interviewed a few years ago who who wanted to let others know more about prostitution:

"They treat us all the same. The word 'prostitute' to a lot of people is six foot blonde, skirt up her arse...they assume prostitutes do it without condoms, they say prostitutes are dirty, but what they seem to forget is that a lot of prostitutes are normal people...I'd like to say that prostitutes aren't all slags and dirty bleached-blonde girls and drug addicts and alcoholics....we are decent women who have got families and only do it for our children or to help us out"
