The cost of running the PM's household has tripled under Blair and reports suggest he's now looking for a £50,000 butler.

Any comments?

Fifty grand is cheap for someone with the skills needed to do a complex job like this. It may sound like a lot of money but it's not in the grand scheme of things.

The papers need to stop the inferences and present comparable facts - how much does it cost to run an operation like Blairs? How much does the French PM spend for example? Also, what value are we getting for this money? If he's landing big deals and big hitters for UKplc then what's the problem?

Instead of trifling around with this, the real story should be a cold hard look at what Mr B's been spending the country's money on, rather than sticking the knives in on something that's relatively minor.

PFI is a criminal waste of money and costs hundreds of millions more than running No 10. Time to refocus?

"The cost of running 10 Downing Street has trebled under Tony Blair, according to official figures.
The bill to taxpayers of running the Prime Minister’s office has jumped from £6 million a year under John Major to £17.8 million for the past financial year, the figures show. Inflation over the period amounts to 26 per cent".

Spending will naturally increase over the years but this is fat too much. That money could be spend elsewhere like the NHS and education.
