Nintendo's Wii is streaking ahead of the competition in the battle of the consoles, outselling both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 in the US. Surprised?
Absolutely not surprised! The Xbox 360 has been out for a year longer, therefore a lot of people that wanted one will already have one, whereas the Wii is new.
Also interesting to note is that even though the majority of people that wanted a 360 will already have one, 360s still outsold Wiis in the Christmas run-up (according to the same stats provider NPD: 2m 360s compared to 1.8m Wiis).
At the end of the day, I'd probably consider the sales figures disappointing - given that a Wii is a brand new console and the new "fun thing", I'd expect them to be whipping a 14 month old console ;-)
