Sony's next gen console will be less able to play PS2 games now that a key chip has been removed to save money. Are you planning on getting one?

well ps3 popularity shows in the pre-order takings. Amazon still has its allocation left. the Wii sold its preorder within hours and was the same for 360.

Surely the idea is to make you want the new version by offering an upgraded console that can still play your favourite games form the previous/original one. It annoyed me that you Had to buy special discs for the PSP and couldn't even watch the movies on a dvd player. I'll stick to my trusty PS2 for now, at least it plays movies, psone and ps2 games and it's games are getting cheaper.

though the idea of a next gen console is to play next gen games.. the fact that is is only Europe who suffer this because sony replaced a component with some software instead is stupid, especially when we will be paying the most for it. .. well, if we actually buy it, which doesn't seem likely.

It's just yet another example of us Europeans being considered as second class citizens in the gaming world. Pay even more for a machine with less capabilities? Only we'd be forced to shell out like that....

That being said, I AM starting to get excited about finally getting a hold of one myself permanently.
