Ken Livingstone has formally apologised for London's role in the slave trade and wants Tony Blair to do the same. A gesture worth making?

pointless

and what's this ...

"It is important because the legacy of slavery remains with many black people on a daily basis."

no it doesn't, because just about any black person I know is more concerned with his/her family/mortgage/job just like everyone else.

and what about the potato famine ?
Sinead O'Connor says you're still a bunch of cvnts ... who's going to apologise for that ?

I'm not sure how this sort of apology, 200 years later, really helps. Although one person said "If you're willing to feel proud of your country's past achievements and inventions, should you not also feel shame and apologise for your country's follies and crimes?"

I don't think either is useful - learn from the past and move on.

I don't know. I tend to agree if you are going to feel positive thought on your countries past, it's important to think of the negatives though I don't know about apologise.

I do think these types of forced expected apologies are rather pointless though.

Based on the principle that I think slavery is a good thing... otherwise I'd have to pay someone to do work and they'd have rights limiting my desire to rape or murder them I suppose I best also apologise for the slave trade and whilst we're at it I'd like to take credit for the light bulb and TV.

Not BB though.
