Microsoft plans "Xboy" device

Fresh from it's two Playstation battles, the Seattle giant now wants to take on the iPod and PSP at once

Gates has put his best minds to work on the project including J Allard, the uber nerd that persuaded him to take the internet seriously. Allard went on to develop the Xbox 360.

The new device looks set to follow on from Microsoft's ultra mobile PC, christened "Origami', which had a lukewarm unveiling earlier this month.

The next-gen 'iPod killer' is likely to play music, games and videos meaning a three way fight between Apple, Seattle and Sony.

So when's this dream machine going to hit the shelves? The word on the street is not for at least a year, maybe two.
