A thousand cheap pedometers were tested by Ghent University and one in three were found to be 50 percent out.
The gadgets were compared with an automated step count log and in most cases were found to overestimate the amount of steps taken.
The team are calling for a kitemark system so consumers know they're buying an accurate gadget.
Our advice? You need to walk miles to work off that burger so you're better off not eating it.
Oh, and get off the bus a couple of stops early.
