UK nutrition guidelines have long advised us to eat four portions of oily fish - such as tuna, mackerel or salmon - a week.
But a British Medical Journal review of 89 past studies of heart disease, cancer or strokes found contradictory evidence.
Researchers couldn't explain why the results of one trial - where angina sufferers given high amounts of oily fish increased the risk of heart attacks - were different from other large studies in the field.
The study's author recommends sticking with oily fish for now, although called for more research into it's effects.
