Blair accused of 'frenzied' law making

Today's Independent leads with a startling fact - Labour has created 3,000 new criminal offences since taking office

"Nothing can justify the step change in the number of criminal offences invented by this Government", said Nick Clegg, the Lib Dems home affairs spokesman.

"It's a frenzied approach to law making, thousands of new offences, an illiberal belief in heavy handed regulation, an obsession with controlling the minutiae of everyday life."

So you mean a nanny state eh Nick?

Some of the more barking offences include creating a nuclear explosion - good one, we feel safer in our beds already - curbs on scallop fishing and restrictions on entering the Titanic.

We were just off there so that's handy to know.
