A quarter show signs of clogged arteries, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes - a disease usually found in the elderly. Junk food and lack of exercise have been blamed.
New rules were unveiled last week banning the use of celebrities in junk food ads for the under 10s - so no more Gary Lineker crisp commercials or Beyonce Pepsi ads during children's shows.
Health food campaigners want the government's broadcasting watchdog to go further by banning all junk food adverts before 9pm.
"Ofcom has put the interests of the food and advertising industries before the interests of kids' health", said Richard Watts of Sustain.
